Ricardo Carvalho about playing in the Legends Charity Game
“Whether playing for Porto or representing the national team—on the pitch or from the sidelines—playing for Portugal has always meant so much to me. It has become a part of who I am. The Legends Charity Game is a special opportunity to give something back to the Portuguese community, both as a player and as someone who cares deeply about our local people. Not everyone has been as fortunate as those stepping onto the pitch, so to play alongside some incredible players while giving back to the country that helped raise me—both as a footballer and as a man—is truly amazing.”
About
Ricardo Carvalho enjoyed a career at the highest of levels playing for elite European sides such as Real Madrid, Chelsea, Porto, as well as Portugal. Setting records, winning trophies and representing his country at multiple European Championships and two World Cups. Cultured on the ball, strong in the air, defensively strong and a true winner, Carvalho was one of the most recognisable names at centre-back in his generation.
CAREER ACHIEVEMENTS
International Level
Having competed at multiple international competitions, Carvalho very nearly won on home soil with Portugal losing in the final to Greece in 2004. He later triumphed in the 2016 Euros, albeit mainly as a squad player but he played his part at multiple tournaments in the heart of defence.
Club Level
Winning trophies at Porto, Chelsea and Real Madrid, he earned plenty of accolades in his time. That included league titles in all three countries, a UEFA Cup and Champions League and cup competitions in all three countries.
Personal Honours
Carvalho was part of one of English football’s greatest records, as Chelsea conceded just 15 goals in 2004/05 season - a record that still stands today. He was also in the Team of the Tournament in Euro 2004, the 2004 UEFA Team of the Year and he also captured the UEFA Club Best Defender of the Year in the 2003/04 season.
